Poke is an English language word and its mean that "to get attention".During using time on Facebook, you may have been "poked" by someone, or you have get notification that you are poked by someone. A poke is a small application on Facebook that is included with every account. On your homepage, a small box on the right hand side called "Pokes" is visible if anyone has poked you.Your friends and those which are not in your friend's list can poke you.

To poke someone, simply go to their Facebook profile page and click on the drop down tool bar on the upper right corner of the screen. Click on the "Poke" in drop down list. You'll get a dialog box in return which confirm poking.
Poke Back:
If someone pokes you, you can poke them back or to hide the poke. If you decide to hide the poke, it disappears forever.You cannot poke the same person twice, unless the user has poked you back or hide your first poke.
How to know if You Have Been Poked:
The pokes themselves are simply small images of a hand with a finger pointing and the name of the person who sent the poke to you. To see if you have been poked, click on the "Poke" link located on the lower left hand side of your Facebook page, under the "Apps" section.
